"Why should I forgive you?" I asked, my voice barely above a whisper. "You've broken my trust, Claire. You've shattered everything we had together. Why wouldn’t you do something like that”

Claire fell to her knees, still begging for my forgiveness. I could feel her presence behind me, her body shaking with sobs. I wanted to comfort her, to hold her close and tell her that everything would be alright. But I couldn't bring myself to do it.

"I need time to think," I finally said, my voice cold and distant. "I need some space. Please, Claire. Just go."
