June wanted to run but the police officer pointed the gun at her leg and pulled the trigger before she could take to her heels. He shot her. She fell to the ground and groaned in pain as blood kept gushing from her leg.

Soon, the sheriff and other police officers formed a barricade around her.

When Sylvia and David arrived at the scene, they were dumbfounded.

Sylvia rushed to Penelope’s lifeless body and began to wail.

“She shot her!” the officer who caught June supplied.

The Sherriff sighed in relief and turned to David. “I'm so thankful that we found you, Mr. Wells. We've been scouting this damned forest for the past 30 hours.”

David wasn't listening to the police officer. He kept staring at June with a clenched jaw.
