CHAPTER THIRTY SIX

It was a slap breakfast that should have been enjoyed by everyone, and yes, everyone did except Esther.  She was anxious. Every minute that passed contracted her palate. She was tense and ground the food until it was pap in her mouth. Even then, it was hard to swallow it down her throat. Mellisa kept peeking at her and wondered, "Why isn't she eating?" She had no inkling what Esther was going through, but intuitively knew she was anxious. "This is so frustrating! I must feign sickness. I can't go." She thought. It wouldn't be easy for her to execute this plan particularly because it was never her suit.

When breakfast was over, which she practically barely touched, she preceded everyone from the table and her cousins followed her.

Jina lingered at them and shouted, "Girls, try to keep time. We still have a lot to do and there is little or no time left."
