Chapter 3 - The Handsome Stranger

This is really unexpected for Jane. She and the man who introduced himself as Lucas a while ago ended up being busy talking about various things. Even though she had prepared herself to serve him as well as she always does.

This man is not a scumbag like the men she usually meets. He even kept his distance from her by sitting at the end of the sofa. When Jane offered him a drink, he politely refused, saying that he doesn't drink alcohol. And when asked about his purpose of coming here, he only came to accompany his friend, nothing more.

Jane dared to say that Lucas is a good man.

Jane really enjoyed their conversation so far. It's been a long time since she could speak freely like this. She even dared to tell a little about her life.

"So, you work here to pay for your sister's medical treatment?" Lucas asked and Jane could catch a tone of concern in his voice, something she didn't really like.

"Yes, that's right. The job requirements nowadays are very difficult. Even if there is something that suits me, the salary is not enough to pay for my sister's hospital bills," she said while chewing a peanut in her mouth.

Jane was still busy eating her peanuts when Lucas fell silent after that. Playfully, she took a peanut and threw it at Lucas, hitting him right in the forehead. She didn't want to receive pity from him and she would let him know that she doesn't like it.

"Feeling sorry for me? No need! I-"

"What if I said I have a job with an extraordinary salary for you?" Lucas asked. He looked quite serious from his facial expression.

Jane raised her eyebrows, feeling interested in Lucas's words. Although she later felt skeptical about what was offered to her. From what he said about the job, it was likely that he was offering an office-related job. Like a manager or maybe a secretary, something she felt less suited for.

But she was still curious and asked, "What kind of job?"

"My wife."

Jane burst out laughing afterwards. It wasn't the greatest joke she had ever heard, but it still sounded so ridicoulous to her. And her heart was skip a bit as well, actually. It turned out that this man was also good at flirting.

"Listen. Marrying me is not easy, you know. First, you have to get me out of here. Second, you have to finance my entire life afterwards."

"The conditions are so easy. Nothing more difficult than those?" Lucas asked challengingly, as if what Jane had just said to him was nothing at all.

Applause to his confidence…

"There are! You have to love me with all your heart until the end of your life!" Jane exclaimed passionately then suddenly approached Lucas sitting and pulled his shirt collar, making their faces facing each other at such a close distance.

Jane looked closely at Lucas's face. From this close distance, she realized that Lucas was very handsome, no longer just decent. If compared to the men she had served before, they were clearly no match for Lucas.

"Oh my god! You're just starting now? It's been so long."

Both Jane and Lucas were startled to hear the voice. Suddenly they moved away from each other. Jane cursed silently.

Since when have Kayla and Willy been there with them?

"Just keep going, don't be shy!"

"Shut your mouth, Will," Lucas stood up from his seat. "If you're done here, let's just go home."

"Eh, are you leaving already?" Kayla looked displeased when she realized her crush was leaving. Her hand did not leave Willy's waist all this time, as if not allowing him to leave.

"Hey, I'll come back. Don't be sad like that, it doesn't suit your pretty face at all." Kayla reluctantly obeyed. He kissed her cheek then briefly touched her lips.

Willy smiled at Kayla then waved his hand at Jane. "Let's go, Luke!"

Willy walked out first, leaving Lucas staring at Jane from where he stood.

"It was nice talking to you, Jane."

"I should be the one saying that," Jane said with a smile.

Lucas then started to walk out of there before stopping when he heard Jane say, "Oh, and that was a good joke."

Lucas turned around. "That wasn't a joke, Jane. I was serious about what I said."

Jane stared at him.

"And I can prove it anytime I want," he continued before resuming his steps out of the room, leaving Jane looking at him curiously.

Kayla approached Jane and shook her arm. "Hey, what kind of joke? I want to hear it too."

Jane remained silent afterward, still thinking about Lucas's words. She ignored Kayla's rambling, knowing she had upset the woman when they didn't go home together from the bar. She even took longer than usual to fall asleep because of his words that kept haunting her.

Jane went to bed that night only to wake up to the sound of her phone ringing.

It was her boss.

If it weren't for working for her, Jane would have scolded her for disturbing her sleep, but because she was aware of her position and wanted to keep her job, she chased away that intention.

"Go to the bar. Right now."

No greetings, no small talk. And she just hang up the call.

Of course, Jane felt strange because this never happened before.

Did she make any mistake?

Is there any client who fly a complaint?

Not wanting to be too curious about the situation, she quickly prepared herself because she didn't want to receive her boss's scolding for being too late.

As soon as she arrived at the bar, Jane immediately entered her boss's room. Where else could she be but there? And how surprised she was when she saw not only her boss there but also the man she thought about all night until she fell asleep.

Lucas.

Without she realised, Jane's heart skipped a beat.
