Barbara said happily, almost jumping. Kristen was slightly confused. She doesn't understand how the woman's mood works. A while ago, she was sad and now she is jumping happily like she won some sort of lottery.

The air around them hitched and Kristen's breath swallowed. Yes, she wants to marry Frederick but not during this tension. She wants everybody to reach the same understanding.
