Twenty Seven

Within the last fifteen minutes, Kristen had cried her heart out. Each time, her past comes hunting, she cries. It relieves her of tension.

With her back leaning against the wall, she brushes her mouth sluggishly.

Her eyes were red from crying and her mouth quivered. Her cheeks were drained of colors.

She wipes her face to stop her tears, only to feel more come. She buries her face into the crook of her elbow and tries to control herself. She sniffles once, twice, and then takes a deep breath.

This is not the time for her to be strong. Not when every member of her family is popping up at her doorstep reminding her of what she is trying to forget.

"Mummy, when will you ever listen to me? all you do is get to work, come back and take care of your husband without asking me how I am fairing."

Her faint voice rang in her head.

"You know, today was PTA and every child's parents in my school came except mine. What did I ever do to you?"

The Voice in her head continues lamenting in pain.
