“This is weird,” Natasha said, her face setting in a prim frown.

Mirah sat by her side, stealing furtive glances at me when she thought I wasn't looking. Qyle had gone to settle some urgent matter which came up.

As hard as it was, I'd been trying to avoid Mirah's gaze all night. Doing so would be plunging myself into torture. Her scent was enough, without adding to it.

“Everything is weird.” I exhaled, and leaned back on the couch.

We were back at my apartment, and I'd been surprised when Mirah had agreed to come along.

“Maybe it had something to do with the rogue-brids?” Natasha suggested, and my eyes darkened.

“That can't be possible. They've gone extinct for years now.” I frowned as I countered her words.

This powerless feeling; I hated it.

“Why exactly am I here?” Mirah finally asked after a while. I could see the dark circles beneath her eyes, even though she was putting on makeup.
