chapter 5

Elena’s father had disappeared from the house like a man possessed by demons? His daughter had never seen him overwhelmed by so much panic and trepidation.

Now all alone in the presence of the great alpha Roman Aguilera,  Elena has the sudden urge to drop to her knees once again and offer her submission. Maybe it was the only way that she could survive the inevitable death.

But what if the alpha had different plans?

“You have failed your duty as an omega. You have shown mercy and that is not the nature of a  werewolf.”  the sound of his voice resonates all through the room.

It sends vibrations through Elena's body causing her to whimper. Just the simplest things like his voice and his presence affected Elena to the point of no return. Was it possible that a man had so much effect on his mate?

“Do you have anything to say for yourself?’’ it was as if Elena was waiting for that moment.

“humanity..’’ She spoke in a heartbeat. “It’s all about humanity. We are rampant creatures. We are beasts, to say the least. But slaughtering other innocent creatures that are not a threat to us is inhuman.’

“WE ARE WOLVES!’’ His voice echoed once again through the walls. Causing Elena to tremble with so much fear. But that didn't stop her from holding her beliefs.

“But we have a human side. Otherwise, we would have lived the rest of our lives in our beast form. But there has to be a reason why the moon goddess allowed us to be half of two things. Why should we disregard human side and become total monsters? The humans haven't done anything to us. They can't even fight us..’’

“The humans are Hunters!’’  he spoke suddenly,  it was indeed the first time that alpha Roman Aguilera needed to argue with someone about anything. He didn't quite fathom why he allowed the debate in the first place. He could crush her with his finger. She is so weak. so tiny. Unimaginable rage passes through his veins and yet the connection that he had for the woman was the only thing that gave him control.

Elena breathed deeply and looked yet again into those beautiful amber eyes of his. Why would a man with such beautiful eyes be filled with so much darkness and cruelty?

“ The humans have become Hunters because they were once the hunted.’’

Roman Aguilera took a step back. He had expected a lot of things from her. He had even looked forward to how ridiculously amusing it would be to break her apart.

Yet it wasn't her statement that shocked him the most,  but the reality and knowledge between those words. Roman had walked the earth for more than 100 years. and he knew that what Elena said was true. But no one cared about that. At least none of the wolves ever did.  As long as they were proving themselves to each other and to their superiors.

“You know nothing about the humans. You have not an inkling of knowledge of their nature. We are beasts,  Elena,  but yet our actions can never be compared to the things that humans are capable of doing,  helpless or not.’’

Elena listened to his words carefully. Not that she had a choice anyway. But she could tell that there was something more behind his statement. Something that Roman possibly choose to hold back on. She gasped when he took a step forward. She prepared herself for the worst.

Was this how she was going to die?

By the hands of her mate? As scared as she always was? One thing she wasn't going to do was best for her life, because she's done it  for so long that it was better to give herself peace of mind in her final moments.

There was a smirk of content on alpha Roman’s lips. He knew that she was defeated. She didn't even stand a chance.

“Are you going to kill me now?’’  she spoke with almost a whisper.

For the first time, Elena saw her mate smile.

“Yes, I am..’’

At least he gave her a straight forward answer.

Roman stared at her for an intense second. He had a thousand thoughts running through his head. Was he going to make it quick? Certainly not.

He wanted her to suffer. As payback to the moon goddess for pairing him with such a lousy weak female. Elena stared at him. Not with fear,  not with regret,  but with a smile on her face. As if she had already accepted fate.

Elena Humphrey had spent most of her life trying to think of the ways that she would die. She knew that it would happen one day and that day had finally come. There was excitement in her heart.

Finally, she would get the peace she has always desired. She would escape this world and find something better on the other side.

At least while the life was snatched from her, she would be staring into the eyes of the man she had immediately fallen in love with. The man who was meant for her. Supposed to be a protector and her savior.

Notably, she would be looking into the eyes of her mate.
