Chapter 49

Emma’s POV

Before knocking on Jordy's door, I take a deep breath, not sure what mood he is in the office.

"Who is it?" He snaps, giving me a sign that he is angry.

"Emma and I," Austin replies.

"Come in." Jordy sighs.

We slowly make our way into his office, and his back to us, staring out of the window. The office is quiet and I can't help but feel edgy.

Austin closes the door, he presses his lips firmly, and he seems very nervous as I am.

We make our way over to his desk, our footsteps make him turn around in his office chair. He looks furious.

Jordy is angry—deadly even, given the ice-cold, heartless look in his eyes.

With a low, furious sound, he says, "Austin," he pauses, but after a few seconds pass, he takes a deep breath and continues to say, "I just got a phone call from the police. They said that Emma's father is suffering from broken ribs, a head concussion."

Gosh, this is worse than I expect.

"My adopted father almost killed me," I say, my words a little shaky.
