The fact that she had skipped both breakfast and lunch was brought to her attention by her stomach's loud grumbling; nonetheless, it was unreasonable to anticipate that she would have a healthy appetite on the worst day of her life.

Her mother peered through the crack in the door after hearing a knock at the entrance. "Gwene, you haven't even started getting dressed yet!" Katie walked into the room with a frown etched into the skin of her brow. "You have to move quickly. The event will begin in exactly half an hour."

"Mom, are you sure you can't get me out of this?"

"I'm afraid not." Katie took Gwen's gown down from the hook where it was hanging. It was long and white, with a basic cut and pattern, and it had a veil that reached the floor. "The longer you keep your father waiting, the more difficult things will become."
