COME BACK HOME

I knew before I woke up that today was going to be a lousy day, first off, I woke up late, with entire chest feeling like it had been run through by a speeding train. I grunted and groaned but still took a shower, and you would think that would wake me up, not a chance, I wished I did not hate coffee, just so my day would be kick started.

My car idled in the parking lot, and I sat at the steering wheel, blinking away the bleary feeling, but it stuck by, I cussed under my breath, wondering if it was sane to go inside. I had to, after all it was supposed to be like I did not know he had travelled, even if the message had come when he was in my house.

“Melanie, good morning.” Bernard’s assistant greeted cheerily.

“Good morning to you.” I don’t fake the cheeriness, because it does not exist at this point.

“Father Bernard and Father Aryan are out of town, we are free for a few days.” She says this with a smile that is supposed to be welcoming, but instead was draining, it only reminded
