Chapter 25

Marienne's pov

The morning sun streamed through the delicate lace curtains, casting a warm glow over the opulent bedroom. I opened my eyes, and for a brief moment, I felt a surge of hope as the golden light seemed to promise a new beginning. But reality soon shattered that illusion the weight of guilt and responsibility I bore for my friend's imprisonment bore down on me like a suffocating fog.

I lay there, motionless, as the memories of yesterday's events played like a cruel slideshow in my mind. My dear friend, locked away in the dungeon because of me. The guilt gnawed at my heart, like an insatiable beast, leaving me feeling hollow and incomplete.

The sound of the door creaking open interrupted my morbid reverie. My maids, lily and Elise, where assigned to me here and I was well familiar with them. They understood and had kept me company through at night as I couldn't overcome the feeling of guilt I felt. They understood and supported me.
