144: Her Mother Isn't Her Mother

ALPHA XANDER’S POV

“What happened to her?” I move to bed immediately and take my mate’s hand. She feels cold to the touch, and though her face looks calm as usual, there is a stillness to her that I don’t like. How pale she looks isn’t helping either.

Candace’s eyes are unfocused so I know I won’t get anything from her, Zara’s eyes are also filled with fear but at least she is more composed than the maid.

“We don’t really know alpha, but I was outside when I heard them screaming and then I came here to see what was going on. She told me the luna threw up a snake.” I shake the thoughts I’m having and chuckle lowly, then I ask her to repeat herself. She does and that makes me sit up, Adriana’s hand slips from mine as I stand to my feet.

“What are you talking about? What snake? What does that mean?” Zara takes a frightened step back but that isn’t my problem.

“I don’t know, alpha. Only Candace saw and she told me but I looked everywhere and there was nothing.”
