133: The Final Round (Who Was Karina?)

(Before) (When Faith went to meet the elders)

Faith couldn’t comprehend what this old lady just told her. She sat on the floor, beside the fireplace. A soft fire crackled beside her while she held a clay cup with herbal tea in it. The woman, who told Faith that her name is Dika, sat on her rocking chair. That chair was the only piece of furniture in the room. Other than that there was only a handmade rug on the floor on which Faith sat. Dika insisted she tries her herbal tea. Faith was hesitant to accept it, but the old lady made one for Faith and one for herself anyway. The two women were yet to converse. Faith has been so stunned to hear that her biological mother was Dika’s granddaughter, which makes her Dika’s great-granddaughter. She could process it. She wonders how many lies she has been living since.

“I know you are surprised, my child,” Dika said. There was an accent in her words. Anyone could tell just by listening to her that she doesn’t speak English as her first language
