Warren sat and waited for almost an hour until he finally saw the familiar figure of Yvonne Grant exiting the elevator. She had a wide smile on her face and the moment she saw Warren, she ran towards him. Warren was surprised when he felt Yvonne's hand touching his.
"Thank you so much for allowing me to meet with Miss Allison Banks. If it wasn't for you, I wouldn't have gotten this job offer," Yvonne said.
Warren was surprised at her sudden gesture. Although Yvonne and Warren attended the same classes sometimes, he didn't expect her to show her gratitude so openly to him. It was really unexpected for him.
"Miss Grant, I assume you got the job," Warren said. He didn't know what else to say, in fear of revealing the kind of relationship he shared with Allison. If people knew that he and Allison were close, some would jump to wrong conclusions and think that he might be Allison's toy boy or something.
"I just finished my interview with Miss Banks. She said she had a great first impression of me. I feel that I might get the job," Yvonne said excitedly.
"I know you will. After all, you have the charisma that Secretary Banks is looking for. Plus, you're driven and hungry for this job, of course she would hire you," Warren said. He carefully chose his words so that it doesn't implicate his role in this situation.
"It was all thanks to you. After speaking with Miss Banks for a while, I learned that Jackson Klein was relieved of his duties. I didn't think she would really do it. After you told her to fire Jackson Klein, she didn't even hesitate to do it. I also realized that Miss Banks has a lot of praise for you," Yvonne said shyly. She knew Warren was the reason she could score the interview, so she was planning on thanking him somehow. However, she didn't know what she could do.
"You think too much of this. I only introduced you to Miss Banks. However, I do not have the necessary power to influence any decision she makes. I think anyone from Flemond University could attest to that," Warren said.
Yvonne blushed. Of course, everyone knew about how poor Warren was. His reputation as the pauper of Flemond University preceeded him. That's why Yvonne was surprised at first to see Warren at such an established company as Galaxy Tech Lane. However, she didn't question why he was there, because she was so caught up in the situation with Jackson Klein.
"I have to ask, why were you here in the first place? I know I came for an interview, but what was your purpose? Do you also want an internship here?" Yvonne asked. Now that the mess with Jackson Klein was sorted out and she basically already had the junior programming job in her hands, she could finally focus on why Warren was here. Something didn't add up. Warren was way too familiar with Allison Banks and Yvonne wanted to know why.
"I came here for an interview, the same as you. I thought that since Galaxy Tech Lane was one of the top IT companies in the city, it would be good for my resumé if I could score a job here" Warren lied. He couldn't be honest with Yvonne unless he wanted to expose himself.
"I know what you mean. Galaxy Tech is a top company, but I want to know how come you know the personal secretary of the boss of Galaxy Tech? She recognized you the instant she saw you. What was up with that?"
Warren started to worry. It seemed like Yvonne was hell bend on finding out about his relationship with Allison. After he helped her get rid of Jackson and giving her the job, she thanked him by questioning his whereabouts.
"I don't really know Miss Banks. I only met her once, that's why she knew me. And since I met her that one time, I thought she would be kind enough to offer me a lowly position in the company. After all, finding work would be really difficult for someone of my financial background," Warren said. This was a lie he thought of on the spot. He didn't know if it would stick.
"So you met her once and thought that she could offer you a job. It must be one hell of a meeting if you thought that she would even consider it," Yvonne said skeptically. She couldn't put her finger on it, but she felt there was more to the story than Warren was letting on.
"Trust me, I was way too optimistic. Miss Banks said she would let me know if there's a vacant spot anywhere," Warren said. He put on a solemn face hoping it would add weight to his words.
"So that means that the position I took, you wanted for yourself?" Yvonne asked. She suddenly came to a realization. Warren was there for the same reason as her. So that meant that both of them might have wanted the same position. But when Warren talked to Miss Banks, he asked Miss Banks to hire Yvonne instead of him. Why would he do something like that for someone he didn't even know. Yvonne felt slightly touched by that. After all, given Warren's financial struggles, he would have benefitted way more than Yvonne from this job.
Yvonne's family was financially well off. She didn't struggle with money in any way. The only reason she didn't want to work in the family business, was that she wanted to do something on her own. She wanted to showcase her abilities to everyone so that people would see that she did everything on her own. She didn't want any handouts, that's why she didn't want to accept the job that Miss Banks offered to her as a courtesy to Warren.
"Miss Grant, you don't have to feel bad about anything. I was the one who offered to Miss Banks to hire you, or have you forgotten. Even if you went to her now and begged her to hire me instead of you, I would outright refuse it," Warren said. Yvonne was touched by his sincerity. She had to find another way to make up to Warren.
"How about I treat you to lunch. My treat," Yvonne offered. She felt as if she took the bread right out of Warren's mouth after he tried so hard to afford it. He had to call in his favor to get her the job. She wanted to do at least something this small for him.
'It has been a long day. After everything that happened at the car show with Emily Reeves and then the situation at Galaxy Tech Lane, I didn't have the opportunity to think about lunch. Plus I'm starving,' Warren thought.
"Thank you, Miss Grant. I really appreciate the offer," Warren said.
After that they left for the parking lot. Warren saw an Audi S6's lights flash when Yvonne pressed a button.
'Such a fancy car,' Warren thought. 'She must be really well off if she could afford a car like this.'
Yvonne saw that Warren was intrigued by the car. She felt sorry for him, since she knew he could never afford such a car. It only made her feel worse about the fact that she took the job from Warren.
After Yvonne and Warren got comfortable in the car, Yvonne drove off. A few minutes later they arrived in front of the Majestic Oriental Kitchen.
When Warren saw the place he reminisced about the time he was here with Samuel. Lauren supposedly invited him too, although he didn't get an invitation, only to embarrass him.
'It's funny how things change. A few days ago, I couldn't even afford a coffee in such a luxurious place. However, right now I can afford this whole place,' Warren thought as he smiled.
"And what are you so smug about?" Yvonne joked when she saw the smile on Warren's face. "Nothing really, I just feel blessed to have a beautiful girl sticking me for lunch. Anyone in my shoes would be happy about it, right?" Warren said playfully. Although Yvonne was beautiful and had an alluring body figure, Warren didn't feel particularly excited by her. That's why he didn't feel too bad for teasing her. When she heard his words, Yvonne blushed. She never thought that Warren would be so bold as to openly flirt with her. This caught her off guard and she didn't know how to respond. "Just keep quiet, or else I will rescind the invite," Yvonne said. That was the only response she could come up with at the time. Warren smiled and pressed his finger against his lips. He was motioning that he would keep his mouth shut. Yvonne smiled when she saw that. Although Warren was poor, he was easy to get along with. Yvonne only talked to Warren earlier
"Warren are you going to allow this woman to talk about you like that?" Yvonne asked irritated."She's entitled to her own opinion," Warren said. He felt as if Jennifer was trampling all over his dignity. It was easy for him to defend himself against Jennifer, but when he was reminded of the previous 6 months they spent together, his heart soften."I didn't know you were such a pitiful person to allow someone to talk down to you like that. It seems like the first impression I had of you was wrong," Yvonne said disappointed. She admired Warren when he stood up for her earlier to Jackson Klein and with Secretary Banks. He showed a lot of courage, but now he was as meek as a lamb."I'm sorry Miss Grant, to drag you into this mess. Jennifer could you please leave," Warren said. Yvonne hit the nail on the head. She was right. Although he was still deeply in love with Jennifer, that didn't gave her the right to disrespect him like that. Especially in front
"It is alright, as long as you give me your word," Yvonne said.At that moment, a phone call was made from outside of the Majestic Oriental Kitchen. Jennifer had a mischievous smile on her face when she dropped the phone call. Charles said that he would be there in 15 minutes and Jennifer was pretty much relishing in that moment. The restaurant would get what they were due for embarrassing her like that.Unbeknownst to them, Warren and Yvonne enjoyed the desert they were offered by the waitress. After all, who would say no, since it was on the house. They talked and laughed for half an hour or so when they suddenly heard the screeching of tires outside the restaurant. When she saw the convoy, Yvonne started to tremble. The sight of the 5 black Mercedes Benz C-Class were all too familiar to her."It's all over now! Charles Chamberlain is here. This restaurant, your life and mine, it is all over," Yvonne said while she was trembling. She knew the
Everyone was looking at Charles with fear in their eyes. Now Warren has done it. It would be impossible for him to escape with his life. Especially when there were 10 guards blocking the exits. Warren just forfeited his own life when he broke Charles's wrist. Charles was screaming in agony at that moment. He didn't know what happened or how Warren managed to break his wrist so easily. He knew he had to make Warren pay, even if it was the last thing he would do. Yvonne was pale where she stood. She never expected Warren to be so crazy as to openly defy Charles and to top it off, he even broke his wrist. Warren was a dead man. Plain and simple. "Everyone leave immediately if you don't want to witness a murder!" Charles shouted. At the warning of his words people were scattering everywhere. Everyone headed toward their nearest exit and the bodyguards made way for them to leave. Even Yvonne and Jennifer hurried out of the restaurant. The
Charles smiled when he saw Warren's pitiful face. "You seemed to enjoy yourself a lot back there, didn't you? I would like to let them go, but unfortunately my hands are tight, or broken I should say," Charles joked. He would finally get his revenge on Warren. "I will give you the opportunity to say your goodbye to your uncle. Your aunt will follow him into the abyss. Start talking, you don't have much time," Charles said. Warren sobbed. He felt as if his whole world came crashing to the ground. Charles had his uncle and aunt's lives in his hands and there was nothing that Warren could do about it. "Charles, I beg you. If you want money, I can give you 500 million dollars right now. I will give up all my assets, just spare their lives!" Warren cried anxiously. Charles laughed hysterically at his words. "Despair will really drive you insane. Do you think you have enough money to pay for their lives? Y
"Samuel, I'm not in the mood for games. I'm warning you, get moving!" Warren's words were ice cold. But who could blame him. Samuel knew Warren wasn't thinking straight. His mind was clouded by rage. If he allowed Warren to go after Charles, that would mean he allowed Warren to walk into his own death. That was something Samuel couldn't allow. "Warren, I don't know what you're going through and I don't know what you're feeling right now, but..." "If you don't know what I'm feeling, then why are you standing between myself and Charles? Are you going to side with him? If so, I will not spare your life!" Warren interrupted Samuel before he could finish his sentence. Samuel knew it would be impossible to reason with Warren. After all, he watched his uncle and aunt murdered in HD. While Warren was grieving, Charles was probably out there having the time of his life. Who would be able to withstand something like that. "Warren
"It will be all expenses paid. You know the life insurance that my aunt and uncle had will pay out a hefty sum. It will be enough to cover travel expenses as well as accommodation and food for the three of us. Just say yes," Warren said as he tried to convince Samuel and Henry to join him."Are the girls in Wellington pretty?" Samuel joked."The prettiest in the world. That much I can guarantee," Warren said. The three of them burst out into laughter. It was good for Samuel to see his friend trying to keep it together. He was worried that the pain would change Warren.Warren's laughter soon turned solemn. He looked at Samuel with tears forming in his eyes. Although he tried to remain strong, the wound in his heart was too deep."Samuel, I don't want to be alone at the house. I don't know how I will feel when I step foot in that yard. I know what I'm asking from you is selfish, but I don't have anyone else left. You are the only pe
Almost 5 hours later, the plane arrived in Wellington. The nostalgia that Warren felt when he saw the familiar surroundings put a smile on face. Although the circumstances in which he returned home wasn't ideal, Warren wasn't going to let it ruin Samuel and Henry's experience of Wellington."Ah, so this is home for you," Samuel said jokingly. Warren nodded and said, "This is it."The three of them hailed a taxi to the Cole residence. After a 20 minute trip, they finally arrived in front of the house."It doesn't look like much, but feel at home," Warren said. It felt unreal to him that his uncle and aunt were gone. The reality didn't sink in completely yet. That's why he tried to remain as positive as he can."I can choose any room I want, right? Since the house is legally yours now?" Samuel said. He tried to make Warren smile. Warren laughed and said it's alright. After all, the four bedroom house wasn't big, but it had enough rooms for all o
