Jennet left her house after having a hearty breakfast, alone in her new kitchen. She was wearing formal attire, a slim fit black blazer to match with the white shirt that she wore inside it, paired with black slacks. Her long black hair was tied in a ponytail.
Since she moved to her new place, she had to drive for thirty minutes to get to her workplace. Unlike when she was still living in the apartment, it took only ten minutes to get to work. It was just close by.
At eight o’clock in the morning, Jennet arrived at a towering white building where she worked. There was a huge billboard on the outside of the high building, one that showed the name of the company; Happy Travel Agency.
As she walked towards the entrance after parking her car at the designated parking area, a voice called out for her.
"Jennet!"
Jennet turned her head to the side and saw a good-looking man walking towards her. The man wore a black suit that showed his masculinity. As he made his way nearer, he showed her a wide smile.
Jennet smiled warmly as she greeted him. "Good morning Mr Tybelg."
Luca Tybelg, the owner of the company, the branch manager and also the heartthrob whom everyone dreamed of except for Jennet. He was the man who has been helping her since she started working in the travel agency company. Due to his affiliation with her, rumours spread around about her being a lecherous woman who leeches to him for his money.
"How many times have I told you to just call me Luca." He said as he stood before her. His dazzling black eyes flirted with her silently.
Jennet smiled, "Well, I am just used to it because it has become a habit of mine to call you by your surname." Her answer had always been polite as not to offend him for not doing as he told her to.
Luca smiled. "Well, I am used to call you Jennet instead of Ms Lockhart. So, you should do the same."
Jennet smiled. "Well, then, Luca, what made you come so early today?" She asked, changing the topic.
"I come to see you." He replied with a wide smile.
"Oh..." Jennet raised her brows in surprise.
"Is there something that we need to discuss?" She asked again. It was rare for him to ask her out without a reason.
"No, I come by to see you." Explained Luca, still smiling.
Jennet laughed awkwardly with brows knitted, “I don’t understand what you mean by that.”
Luca coughed softly and asked straight to the point, "I was wondering if you would like to grab lunch together with me today?"
“Lunch?” Jennet stammered in confusion. Her guard rose steadily.
"Just the two of us," Luca added with a wide smile.
Jennet was speechless for a while. She opened her mouth but then closed it. She wanted to say something but she couldn't say it. She didn't know how to say what she wanted to say. She didn't expect the heartthrob of the company would ask her out because this will be the first time he has ever asked her out for lunch although they had known each other for five years.
She looked around to make sure no one is around to eavesdrop on their conversation. Her awkwardness and troubled expression made Luca smiled.
"You don't have to worry about what other people think. They have nothing to do with me. Plus, I am asking you out for lunch and not them." He said softly.
Jennet looked at him, contemplating. ‘It would be rude to refuse his kindness’ she thought deeply.
"Well, okay then. I will go grab lunch with you today." She answered while nodding her head in agreement.
‘Well, it's just lunch. Nothing special about it. After thirty minutes of lunch, I will be back to work as usual and no one will be getting angry at me.’ She mumbled to herself.
Keeping a peaceful relationship with everyone else has been her top priority although most were uncomfortable around her. Ever since Luca treated her nicely years ago, the other colleagues were envious of her. When she moved house, rumours spread like wildfires within the company. It was all about her being the acclaimed hidden mistress of the heartthrob but no one can prove it though.
"Cool, then I will be picking you up from your office later this afternoon," Luca added, snapping Jennet back to her senses.
“Pick me?” She pointed to herself in surprise. Luca nodded, still smiling widely.
Jennet coughed softly as her hand fisted by her side. ‘It will spell danger for me!’
"Umm, let's just meet at the place you chose. I will go there to meet you. You don't have to fetch me at the office." She made her mind. Better be cautious she thought. She was worried that if her colleagues see him coming to fetch her, it will only prove the rumour true about her being his mistress when it wasn’t true at all.
She doesn't want that. For all of the time, she has always been innocent. She had no romantic relationship with Luca!
Luca frowned at her. "Why? We're on the same floor. There is nothing to worry about." He spoke.
Jennet pursed her lips for a while before answering. "You see, it's uncomfortable for me. You know, your fans will kill me." She was practically pleading with him to understand her concern.
Luca looked at her troubled look that he had never seen as clear as day before. Somehow, he found her cute when she pleaded with him for mercy. He wanted to laugh and to pinch her face.
“Deal. I will text you the place and time. I will even call you if you forget about this date." He spoke while nodding his head, not wanting to probe even further.
After hearing his words, Jennet was once again in confusion. ‘What? Date?’
She looked at him with a questioning look. "Date?"
Luca looked at her confused and blank face. "Yeah, I am treating you to a lunch date. You know lunch date among pals." He smiled.
Jennet inhaled a deep breath in silence, "Oh, okay." She answered with a smile but within she was still confused.
‘Does the term lunch date for pals even exist? What does it suppose to mean anyway? Dating and becoming friends?’ The questions circulated in her head. On the first day of work after a holiday, her mind was already messed up by Luca’s sudden lunch request.
Both of them went their own separate ways as soon as they entered the building. They worked in the same building and she worked in the administration office.
Jennet walked into the empty office. No one has arrived yet. She headed straight towards her desk and found stacks of papers on top of her desk. There was a note stuck on top of the papers: Due in three days! Pass to me with complete itineraries before 9 am on March, 24th- Mira.
Jennet exhaled a deep breath. ‘Why is she always giving me the last-minute job and not someone else while I was on leave?!’ She groaned silently.
She stepped towards the window and raised the blinds, letting lights into the gloomy office. She sat down on her chair and turned on the computer in front of her. While waiting for it to run, she went to the pantry and made herself a mug of hot chocolate before taking it with her to her desk.
She sat down and drowned herself with the paperwork while cursing her bad day that knows no end.
Meanwhile, back at the villa, the tall blond-haired person was standing silently on the balcony. He was looking out at the city centre, to where Jennet was. His face, however, was so sullen as he narrowed his eyes to where he was looking at. He gritted his teeth furiously, sulking on his feet. His hands were turned to balls of fist by his side. After a while, he looked away, grunting and then stared at the little figure who stood beside him. "What are they talking about? Why is she so meek when he is around?" He asked, pointing out in the direction of the city. The little figure was a little boy about the age of five to six years old and was about an adult's waist height. He had a pair of beautiful glassy dark blue eyes, chubby cheeks and short black hair. His face was cute but expressionless. He wore a light-green coloured robe. The little boy looked at him and politely answered, "He was asking her out for lunch." His tone was soft but it was enough
The blond shuddered, not sure if he was happy or mad because his expression was beyond interpretation. Meanwhile, his little assistant only nodded his little head.“You heard it as it is.” He said to his master. The master raised an eyebrow. "Only two? How about the rest? Why not all?” He groaned.“I know nothing about the reason, so, please don’t ask me further about it.” The little assistant said, dismissing him.“They are so stingy!" The master spoke. He mumbled alone not satisfied with what he heard."Should I go back to them?" The assistance asked calmly. “I probably need about a month to get the answer.”His master grunted. "Don’t waste my time. Just tell me of the privileges." He said and mumbled angrily.Little Veen ignored his unsatisfied mumbling as he explained about the privileges. "The first one is, you will only be able to retrieve your body if you spend more ti
It was noon when Jennet realised the time for a break had come long ago. As soon as she remembered it, she hurriedly arranged her messy desk. After that, she ran like a gazelle out of her company forgetting that she wore high heels. Two hours ago, she received a text message from Luca about the place of their meetings. However, she completely forgot to remind herself about the lunch plan. Although the restaurant was only a building away from their company, she was already late for fifteen minutes. Luca must have been waiting for her! As she stepped out of the lift, her phone rang. Luca’s name was on the screen. She gulped as she coughed softly before answering the call in a manner as calm as possible. “Hello, Mr Ty… I mean Luca. I’m on my way now.” She spoke while on the phone as she crossed the zebra crossing. Her mind was in jumbles. It wasn’t clear if she was terrified of the upcoming lunch plan or something else. Unaware of her surrounding, she bu
Jennet froze when she stood in front of a fancy restaurant as mentioned in Luca’s text message. There were well-groomed hosts in a black tux, looking formidable at the entrance of the restaurant. Although she had stayed in the country for years, this would be the first time she saw such a restaurant near her working place. She frowned. ‘It can’t be right,’ she agonized alone. This place is too luxurious for a lunch break. Did Mr Tybelg text her the wrong place? Whisking out her smartphone, she dialled Luca’s phone number. Less than a minute, her call was answered. "Yes, Jennet? Have you arrived?" Luca’s melodious voice greeted her ear. Jennet looked up to the name signage of the restaurant. Even the name was too fancy to be spelt out. ‘Forget that name!’ She thought. "Mr Ty…I mean, Luca, did you, perhaps text me the wrong place? I am currently standing in front of a luxurious restaurant. Is this the correct place because I can see there are h
Jennet arrived at her office and was gasping for air. She rushed to the restroom and splashed her face with water at the sink. Then, she looked at her wet face in the mirror. Her complexion was not looking so good. She exhaled and inhaled a few times. ‘Stay calm…’ She exhaled deeply. Everything that happened just now seemed like a bad dream. She shook her head, 'No, no, no! I don't want to have any relationship with anyone within the company. I just want to be all alone with no more trouble. I have suffered a lot and it is time for me to find my happiness.' She washed her face again before wiping her face with a handkerchief that she kept handy all the time. She was about to walk out when she bumped into Marvina who happened to walk into the restroom. "Jennet!" Marvina gasped, her eyes widen in shock. "You scared me!" She said, half yelling. She bent down with one hand on her chest, breathing heavily. "I'm sorry!" Jennet apologized and patted
For once in her life, Jennet had a peaceful working day because Mira was not around to humiliate her. Mira’s minions were also busy with their matters. It gave Jennet the blissful time she had been looking for and she even wrote down in her diary about the peaceful day. After work in the evening, she dropped Marvina at the apartment. Then, she drove home. Luckily, the road was not congested and she reached home around seven o’clock in the evening. While unlocking the front door, she looked around keenly because, for some unknown reason, she felt restless; as if someone followed her from work. But, there was no one around except for the silence that crept around.Inhaling and exhaling deeply, she entered the villa and immediately locked the door; double lock, at least. Ever since she lived alone, it has been the priority to lock the door because who knows who might make an unannounced visit. While changing footwear into house slippers, she swit
Jennet sat alone at the dining table with a cup of instant spicy noodles. She had been eating instant foods ever since she made up her mind to buy a house. As she instilled the unhealthy habit, it became a routine as time went by. It is hard to part from it now. Sometimes, she craved the taste of a proper homecooked meal. However, since she did not usually cook, she abandoned the thought. The same tall figure sat beside her with both hands cupping his cheeks on the table. He smiled as he watched her finishing the cup noodle. When she accidentally scalded her tongue, a scowl appeared on his handsome face and he glared at the cup, badgering the static thing for an answer.‘How dare you hurt my wife’s delicate tongue!’ he cursed at the cup noodle who was probably speechless for the blame if it was a living being. The blond shifted his adoring glance towards Jennet who took a cautious feed from the piping hot cup. Her cheeks reddened as she slurped
Kring!!Jennet jerked awake by the sound of the alarm clock. She stared at the ceiling mindlessly. After a while, she yawned. Then, from under the cover, she reached out for the clock and hit the snooze. After the sound died down, she laid still for a few minutes while scratching her head. “I was dreaming last night,” she reminded herself like a mindless woman. She yawned again like a lazy cat that was forcefully woken up in the morning. As she propelled her body into a seating position, she glanced at the bathroom. Flashes of memories from the event in the bathroom appeared in her head. She looked at herself; she was in her favourite pyjamas. She chuckled, relieving herself of the worry.“I was worried for nothing. Everything was a dream, a wild dream of a single woman who lives alone,” she said to herself. Instead of feeling sad, she smiled widely. She jumped off the bed, slid the glass door to the side and went to the bal
