Chapter 37

The next few days were brutal. We had to keep to the back roads to avoid traffic cameras, but that wasn’t the worst part. The fact is that I have had a fever ever since we left Kansas. Cyran was doing his best to help me get the fever down, but nothing worked.

Instead of stopping again at a hotel or anything, Kellan and Jade took turns driving so we could get to Mexico as soon as possible. Even Cyran’s uncle told us we needed to hurry because he was worried that I wouldn’t be able to survive if we didn’t find a solution. For the most part, I felt fine, other than feeling weak and having a fever.

I didn’t know what was going on, but I kept thinking my body was rejecting the stone. I didn’t want to tell Cyran, because I didn’t want him to worry any more than he already was. For the last few days, he hasn’t slept, other than dozing off for a few minutes occasionally.
