CHAPTER 10

MIRIAM

My hands felt uneasy as I clapped them together, pacing back and forth in the large corridor on the top floor of the royal palace. From there, I could see everything except for Esmeray.

The night had grown darker, and it was past the appropriate time for the princess to be out in the woods by herself. Well, not entirely by herself... She had Caesar, whom I had encountered earlier in the chambers.

He seemed affectionate, the complete opposite of ruthless. Considering what Esmeray had told me about him despising her earlier, I couldn't help but worry that she was taking too long in his company.

By this time, everyone else was already asleep, but not a trace of sleep dared to enter my eyes. My heart was restless. We had never discussed her spending the night at her mate's tent.

I approached the edge of the corridor and gazed into the distance, hoping to find any signs of her or her mate out there, but nothing appeared, and I sighed.
