JACKSON'S POV

I paced around my compound as I talked to someone over the phone. Tim played with his pet around the carport as Max cleaned the cars up.

"Please, keep an eye on her door in particular and get back to me if you find anything suspicious. Remember that you will be rewarded handsomely if you do a good job," I said in a final tone and ended the call.

When I inserted the phone into my pocket, I noticed that my fingers were shaking. I raised it to my face for a closer observation. My fingers are literally dancing and I know why.

I'm afraid. What if she does something stupid? Why didn't I think about it before yelling at her like that and abandoning her?! She could write a suicide note and…

No! I can't think about such things. Vera won't even go there. She still has a long way to go in life and I'm willing to show her what she's missing if only she would give me a chance!
