You Disappointed Me
Carissa heard a baby's cries and struggled to open her eyes. A blurry image of a teary Mateo with a baby in his arm came into her view before her vision went dark.
"Rissa!" Mateo try to shake awake but failed.
"Hold him." he passed the baby to Nicanor before lifting Carissa into his arms.
They then strode out of the dungeon and towards his residence.
Along the way, Mateo was engulfed with regret as well as anger. If only he resisted his parents as well as the elders' order, Carissa wouldn't have been in this state now.
He was aware of their hatred and malice towards Carissa but thought that they wouldn't hurt her for his sake. How wrong he was!
He was angry at himself for turning a blind eye on the mate he'd been waiting for for decades. He truly didn't deserve her!
