Marcus' Call

"Why would he feel jealous?" I inquired, noticing the confusion etched on his face.

Taking a deep breath, I tried to compose myself amidst the whirlwind of emotions threatening to engulf me. This was a question I had hoped to avoid answering, especially during our intimate dinner.

"Why not?" he asked, seeking further clarification.

"Sweatheart, Marcus and I are no longer together," I explained, my voice steady despite the turmoil within.

"We've moved on and our love for each other faded long ago, even from the beginning of our marriage. We simply got married out of necessity at that time."

Concern filled Elijah's eyes as he reached out to hold my hand. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to bring up painful memories.I knew what you've been through," he apologized, his voice laced with remorse.

But I couldn't let him shoulder the blame for something that wasn't his fault. "No, it's alright," I reassured him. "I'm just grateful that it's all in the past now. I have you, and that's all that matter
