39 Mommy

I was sitting with my back against a big old tree, rising my face to enjoy the sunshine. It was already the end of May, and the chilly weather of the spring finally started warming up.

I was tired, but in the woods I finally felt calm, at least. I breathed in the sweet scent of wildflowers and blooming trees, and listened to the soft noises of the forest.

The small fricioning noise of Rosie’s pencils working on the paper blended into the noises of nature so perfectly, it took me some time to realize it had stopped. I opened my eyes and met a pair of round green eyes in a serious little face.

“What’s the matter, cupcake?” I asked, studying her troubled expression.
