“How will the artificial insemination happen if I am a virgin?” “Are you a virgin?” The doctor asked. There was a kind of caution in his voice that scared her. But whether she lied or not, he was bound to find out anyway. She decided to come clean. “Yes, I am one, Doctor King.” “Then all of this is a really bad idea for you, Miss Grant. First, we are not sure if you can carry a baby successfully if you have never had one. And as a virgin, I will have to break through your hymen if I have to inseminate you.” Alisa went blank. Alisa gasped. “Every breath that Johnny takes is numbered and being counted down, Alisa. He’s dying and holding on to life with that dialysis. Last night, I was scared because I didn’t want you to come and meet a dead brother. I did everything you would have done, Alisa. I held his hand and kissed him and begged him to hold on.” “Oh, my God.” “All I need you to do now is to take his life into your hands, and go into Doctor King’s office and tell him you want the contract. Five hundred thousand dollars will be yours after it.” Alisa’s hand covered her mouth. If Stacy was right, then virginity was nothing. She couldn’t afford to lose Johnny. Her heart skipped several beats as she took off, nearly bumping into several sick patients until at last, she was right in front of the doctor’s office. “He asked you to meet him at dinner or he asked you on a date?” “He asked me to come with him for dinner.” “Open your eyes, Alisa darling. Jayden Wells likes you. He could have just discussed everything with you there in King’s office, not invited you to dinner.” “But,” Alisa started. “He’s not like Elliott. He does not try to get my attention like Elliott does, or go out of his way to do things for me like Elliott.” “Observe him at the restaurant. I swear he likes you. In fact, go home and get ready. I will take care of Johnny for you.” Stacy offered. “I want to see him before I go.” They both went back to the ward, where Johnny lay sound asleep. Alisa kissed his forehead, and his eyes instantly came open. “I will be back, Johnny. Please stay strong for me. I will solve this problem for us.” “I know you will, Alisa,” Johnny answered, managing a smile. His words tore at her heart. They carried so much confidence in her. Jayden decided letting himself be free with Alisa would not be a bad thing to do at all. “I like how the colours of our clothes match. It’s almost like you read my mind.” “Or you read mine,” Alisa answered, turning to look at him. “I can read your mind, Miss Grant,” Jayden said, beaming a smile. Alisa concluded abrasive Jayden was wherever he went to when the real Jayden Wells was smiling. And she wanted to enjoy him smiling like this. He was gorgeous when he smiled. “Tell me how you would do that.” She grinned and turned to face him again. He cursed himself for not remembering he could not read human minds, only the minds of his fellow wolves, and then an idea popped into his head. Something he had noted mentally when he asked Maria about Alisa the day she fell in the pool at his house. “Think about your favourite place in the world. The place you always want to be in. Jayden drove into the parking lot of the Meal Bites, a popular restaurant in Palm Springs City. He parked, turned to Alisa and smiled before turning and opening his car door to get out. He then went to Alisa’s side and opened the door for her, but she was stuck because she did not know how to unbuckle his seatbelt. He bent close to her and in one snap, she was loose. “Come with me, Miss Grant.” He said, offering her his hand. She took it, and once again his hand covered hers and led her into the restaurant. Once inside, everyone seemed to know him—waiters, customers, and all, and she blushed when she caught jealous looks from several women. They got to a table in the corner, and then he pulled out a seat for her. “Are you this chivalrous, Mr Wells?” Alisa asked with a smirk as she sat. “What do you think?” “I wonder if you are doing this just for me.” She said, sitting upright in her seat, her hands resting between her thighs, her eyes on him. He stopped his convertible by a lonely side of the road all of a sudden, after driving leagues away from Alisa’s home at top speed and exhaled deeply. That had turned out to be harder than he thought. She was the first woman in three years to charm him so much, and if he did not leave, he would have forgotten all the cherished memories he shared with Avana. If he had to admit it, it hurt to leave her like he was never there, but it was a necessity. He did not want to forget about Avana and act like she never existed, and it seemed good for Alisa too. She would keep her prized virginity, and complications would never arise from his wolf pack if he had a baby with a human. This emotion was coming at the right time. He needed to morph into his wolf form. He let all the pain he felt on leaving Alisa to envelop him and exaggerated it until it hurt in his chest.
