SHOWTIME

He hands me a cup of iced water which I gratefully accept. For his sake I do try to take small sips but that is the most I can do so I push the glass away from me.

“I thought you promised no more tears.” He says, sitting beside me and wiping the stray tear from my cheek.

“I know I said I won’t cry any more so Prudy won't have to worry about me. I’m sorry I’m such a mess.”

He pulls me close to him, forcing me to look up at him.

“Hey, you aren’t a mess. You are human, showing emotions is part of the baggage. It’s sad that you had to be separated from her like that and you are allowed to feel sad.”

I sniffle and say nothing whilst watching him through glassy eyes.

“Okay?” he urges.

I nod.

“Verbal response. I need you to respond verbally.”

That brings back memories. Those were things he said in my fantasies.

I give him a puzzled look.

“Yes.”

“Good girl.”

Was it just me? Or was my fantasy professor coming out at the moment?
