Rekindling the Fire

“What happened?” I asked Belle as soon as she entered the SUV.

“I’m sorry. I tried to keep his attention, but I think his wolf was sensing Tara’s distress. His eyes kept flashing,” Belle responded, looking ashamed at her failed task.

Twice, Mason had interrupted my time with Tara earlier. It was Belle’s job to keep him entertained and away from us, while I had my time with Tara. I would have to see about silencing his wolf since he had a connection with her because of the mate bond.

Tomorrow, I would look into his finances, digging up whatever dirt I could find on the prick. We made it back to the hotel where I went up to my room to shower. I scrolled through the contacts on my phone afterward, dialing a number I hadn’t used in a while.

“It’s been awhile,” the familiar voice said on the other line.

“I know. I need something,” I cut right to the chase.
