I woke up to someone squirming beside me. It took me two frowns and several distorted blinks to notice the shackled grip over my waist. But what confused me more was the irregular heartbeats and rushed breaths of a person glued to my back. Startled and confused I twisted in Ezra’s hold to look back at him. What caught me by surprise were his eyes shut close and a frown marring his forehead.

Sweat trickled down the side of his face as his lips parted to draw in strangled breaths. Something twisted inside me. Hard. Before I know what I was doing, I had my hand placed over his on my waist as I shook him slightly.

“Ezra?” I called out but he wouldn’t budge.

“Stop!” A scream tore apart Ezra’s mouth and my eyes widened as I jumped with a very strange fear that gripped me hard as his features morphed into one of pain and the body next to me writhed in distress.

“No! Help!” Terror drenched Ezra’s voice. My hands instinctively moved to his face as I gently jerked him lightly tapping his cheeks
