Chapter Thirty

Denise stood watching the birds through the window in the living room. He was deep in thought when he heard footsteps behind him.

"There you are!" Elise exclaimed.

"You are it." She touched her brother and ran the other direction expecting Denise to chase her but when he didn't, she stopped in her tracks and turned to look at him

"Den?" She tried to get his attention but he said nothing. She looked over at Maurice, as if to ask her if she knew what was wrong with their brother, who shrugged..

"What's wrong?" She walked up to Denise with Maurice in stride. Denise sighed turning to face his sisters.

"Just thinking."

"About what?" Maurice asked.

"About mom and Dad."

"What about mom and Dad?" Elise asked. Her expression was one of curiosity.

"Yeah, what about them?"

"Haven't you guys noticed mom and dad have been acting weirdly lately?"

"What do you mean?" Elise asked, tilting her head to the side in question. Maurice's hands were folded across her chest.
