C H A P T E R 76 - Elijah.

As soon as Gwen saw me approaching, she broke off from her trio who were guarding the north border. I could tell that she had a long night behind her, the dark circles underneath her eyes being more than enough of a tell-tale. I could only imagine that she was happy to be relieved by me, although I couldn’t share the same sentiments as she did. I wished to be back home, to be with Samantha and to make sure that she was alright. I knew that Gwen was just as capable as I was of taking care of Samantha, but that didn’t mean that I didn’t want to be doing it.

“How’s your shift been going?”

Gwen lifted her shoulders in a shrug, looking back over her shoulder. I could tell that she was trying to judge whether or not the other two patrol wolves who had been with her would be able to hear her - and they would. And I knew that the response that she was going to give me, wasn’t going to be an honest one.
