She's getting comfortable with me

Chapter 6

Alpha Miguel

Reclining on the chair, I watch as she eats the food cautiously. With just a glance, anyone would know that it's her first time eating something like this.

'She's she the one for you, Alpha' Roan's words replay in my head, and I sigh briefly as I throw my head back, spacing out again. I don't know why this had to happen after I've given up on ever being with any woman, but then I feel like life is trying to give me a second chance, but am I ready for this chance? What if she ends up dying just like others? Will I ever be able to be free from the guilt? She's just an innocent human that doesn't even know about my identity. I feel like it'll be selfish of me to do this, knowing that she won't be safe, but what about the bond that keeps drawing me close to her even if I try to resist?

"Isn't she pretty?" Ares suddenly pulls me out of my train of thought, and I sigh briefly.

"I'm scared, Ares. I'm scared she's not safe around us," I mind link Ares, and I feel him whimper sadly inside me. He's more broken than I am, and I can feel it.

"Are we going to let her go?" He asks me, and I can feel his pain.

"I don't know... I don't know what to think, but we can't take another life. Although they were werewolves, they couldn't survive it, what about she that is a human?" I mind-link him again, and I feel him groan painfully. This is the most difficult time I've had to go through.

"I'm done, Sir," Her voice brings me back to reality, and I raise my gaze to see her standing in front of me with a wide smile playing on her lips. She must be so excited to have eaten that food, and I'm glad I ordered for it.

"Thank you for the food. It was nice," She bows her head, revealing her perfect dentition as she smiles at me. If only she knows what I'm trying to fight here, I'm sure she won't even think of smiling at me, let alone showing her teeth.

"You're welcome. You may leave now," I dismiss her, turning my gaze away from her just so I won't get affected by the sight of her, but all that doesn't seem like it's going to work, anyway.

"Uhm... What about you, Sir? Aren't you going to eat something?" She asks, and I shake my head, avoiding her gaze.

"I'm not hungry. I'll eat when I get home," I reply to her, and she nods her head.

"Alright. Uhm... The food was really nice, and I love it," She smiles excitedly, and I nod my head.

"It's okay. You should leave now. I need to focus on work," I say to her dismissively, trying as much as not to sound nice. It's difficult craving her around me, but still, I have to chase her away from staying by my side. I feel like I'm going to lose my mind.

"Hmm. I'll be on my way now," She finally turns and walks out of my office, closing the door gently behind her.

I watch as she dances around for seconds before she finally takes her seat behind her desk.

Taking a deep breath, I pull out the cabinet of my desk and pick up the necklace from there. It looks cheap, but somehow, it makes me feel so excited. It's the first time someone was going to get me a birthday gift, and I can't help but feel special, especially knowing that it came from my mate.

The rest of my day at the office was filled with me working my ass out, and it was finally closing time.

After rounding everything up in my office, I amble toward the door and pull it open.

"Sir, are you ready to go home?" She springs up to her feet as soon as I step into her office, and I stop to look at her.

"Yes. It's closing time already," I reply to her after I check my wristwatch, but the expression on her face shows that she wants to say something to me.

"Is there any problem?" I inquire, and she quickly shakes her head.

"Not really. Uhm... I just wanted to ask if you're willing to watch a movie with me after work since it's your birthday today. It's fine if you don't want to, I understand..."

"Where is it?" I cut her off, and her face brightens.

"It's at the cinema. They are showing a very interesting movie there tonight, and I think you will love it," She replies to me as she claps her hand. She's getting overly comfortable around me, and the feeling was supposed to be mutual, but I can't help it. I don't just want to hurt her.

"Alright. I will wait in the office then. Let me know when we should go," I say to her, and she quickly nods her head.

"Alright, Sir. I will round up everything and order the ticket now," She beams with smiles, and I finally walk inside my office.

"Shit!" I curse under my breath and run my fingers through my hair, recalling that the plan was to be cold to her so she can stay away from me. I guess I won't ever be able to do that, considering this crazy mate bond.

After waiting for another fifteen minutes, she finally knocks on the door, and I amble over to her.

"I'm sorry for keeping you waiting, Sir. I still had a little work to handle. The tickets are here now. Can we go now?" She asks as she smiles sheepishly, avoiding my gaze.

"Sure, let's go," I reply to her before we both leave the office.

The drive to the Cinema took us just fifteen minutes, and all the time wasn't boring, since Clarissa was here to spice up the atmosphere. I had no idea she was such an extroverted person. Although I have this dislike for people that talks too much, I don't really feel irritated by her even with her extroverted personality, maybe because she's my mate, or it's just natural. I don't know.

"We are here," She announces excitedly as we arrive at the cinema later. It's my first time coming here since I'm not interested in things like these, and I hope I don't regret this later...
