Martha’s eyes lit up in pleasant surprise as she placed her hand atop my outstretched one.

“Of course,” she replied and I pulled her towards the dance floor.

It was a soft, slow-dancing song that allowed me to press and sway against her. I wrapped my hands around her waist firmly and she placed hers on my shoulders.

I loved the feel of her. The way she slotted perfectly with my body. Even as the other guests danced around us with their significant partners, it seemed like we were the only ones in the world and it was perfect.

Well, it would have been perfect, if we weren’t rudely interrupted merely minutes into the dance.

“Hey! You!”

The music screeched to a stop and the crowd around us began muttering and chattering amongst themselves.

“Alex? What’s going on?” Martha asked softly beside me, her face screwed up in confusion.

“I don’t know,” I replied honestly, looking around to see what was causing the commotion, or rather who was.
