Beating Lucian at a game of chess was quite satisfactory, more than I thought.

We went back and forth with me losing and winning, but overall, I was in the lead and it was satisfying to knock this big baby out of his high pedestal.

My eyes were definitely glittering with mischief as I snatched Lucian’s queen piece off the board, giving him the cockiest smirk I could muster.

“I claimed your queen,” I fought the urge to stick my tongue out, that would be really childish.

But then, he is almost a decade older than I am.

Lucian scowled at me, giving me a very nasty glare that would have made anyone else cower under it, but I reveled and basked in his annoyance. He looked so close to bursting a vein, by the way he was straining his neck muscles.

He was about to say something— perhaps cuss at me, but he stopped when he saw something behind me, or rather, someone.
