Chapter 64

The mob was closing in on us, so I took another quick turn, and we disappeared down a small alley. Silver was clinging to me, but we hid in the dark, and the mob walked right past us. We were both breathing heavily. The sun was almost down, and we had to get away from the street before the crowd found us and took us both down. I was, after all, Silver’s "family". I was part of the royal family. What if they blamed me too? I had not had the chance yet to convince them that I was not part of this, and while some still believed I was good, since they were smiling at me as we walked, I knew others were probably blaming me, thinking I was part of this evil scheme, raising their taxes. Silver was shivering and almost crying, but I quickly led us down the alley away from the mob. Unfortunately, a few people appeared at the end of it, noticing us and calling out to us.
