Hospital

The sterile white walls of the hospital room were suffused with a pale light that lent a ghostly hue to everything. The hum of the machines lent a mechanical beat to the stillness of the room. Wires that snaked from the machines to her body seemed like a lifeline connecting her to the world beyond, though it was a world she had no knowledge of. Slowly, a lady eyes opened and the bright light of the hospital room flooded her vision. The beep of the machines sounded far away at first, and she felt as if she were floating in a sea of confusion. Where was she? What was happening? The last thing she remembered was a car crash, but that had happened years ago. A wave of panic seized her, and she tried to move, but her body was unresponsive. She was trapped in her body, a prisoner of her own flesh.

As her eyes adjusted to the light, the figure of a woman appeared at her side. Tears streamed down her face, and she clutched onto the bedrail with trembling fingers. "Mum?"
