Chapter 2

Kendra’s POV

After we got back to the cabin everyone decided that they wanted to go to the nightclub for a few hours. I really didn’t want to go, but Bree and Audrey cornered me and wouldn’t leave me alone. “Come on Kendra go with us. You will have fun and who knows maybe you will see your mystery man again.” Audrey said with a huge smile on her face. Bree looked at her then back at me.

“Wait, what mystery man?” I laughed.

“It’s nothing. I just literally ran into this really cute man when we left the restaurant. He helped me up and then I caught up with you guys.” Bree looked shocked and Audrey laughed at me.

“Oh he wanted you and I think you want him to.” I shook my head at her then threw my pillow at her. She ducked out of the way then tackled me down on the bed and started tickling me.

“Ok ok stop.” I managed to say through my laughter.

“Not until you agree to come with us tonight.” She continued to tickle me and then Bree joined in.

“Ok! I will go.” They both stood in triumph.

“Good. Now go get sexy, because we are finding your man tonight.” I just shook my head as they left the room.

Great, now what am I going to wear? I went over to my bag and started digging through all the clothes I had brought and finally decided on something. It was my favorite outfit to wear whenever I went out. It was an off the shoulder long sleeved, beige dress that came to just above my knees. I had a cute pair of knee-high boots that I wore with it. It was perfect for tonight. I went into the bathroom and showered then got dressed. I decided to leave my hair down so I put some gel and hairspray in it to bring the wave out in it. For my make up I did A glittery eye shadow that brought out the color in my eyes. I took one last look in the mirror, damn I looked hot, I said to myself then made my way to meet the others.

The club was actually pretty cool. Since we were guests at the resort everything was included and we could just charge the drinks to the room and pay when we left. We found a booth that was big enough for all of us and ordered our first round of drinks. I was sitting in between Audrey and Paxton and Bree was sitting across from us. Audrey and Bree were talking and checking out the dance floor when Paxton scooted closer to me and whispered in my ear. “You really do look hot tonight. Do you want to dance?” I smiled at him.

“Ok, but let me have my drink first.” Just like she heard me Audrey turned to us.

“Are we going to go dance or what?” I laughed as Paxton frowned at her.

“Well, Kendra and I were going to go dance after our drinks.” Audrey laughed.

“Well, I guess you got to make room for me because I want to dance with my bestie. Besides, she doesn’t want you, Paxton.” I looked at her in complete shock. I couldn’t believe she just said that to him.

“Audrey!” I yelled at her. She looked at us.

“What? Do you want him? I’m just telling him to be cool. We are all friends and nothing more. You know I love you, Paxton, right?”

The waitresses came back to the table with our drinks before Paxton could say anything. I thanked her then swallowed my shot of tequila in one gulp and grabbed Paxton’s hand. “Come on let’s go.” He smiled at Audrey as he stood up and started to walk away with me. I stopped and turned back to her and Bree.

“Well, are you coming bitches?” They both laughed and came running up to us. Paxton looked at me and I just winked at him as Audrey and Bree dragged me to the dance floor. Paxton was a good friend but it would never be more than that and he knew that, or at least I hoped he knew that. When we got to the dance floor my favorite song came on and I immediately started to dance. I was so absolutely lost in the music that I hadn’t noticed Bree and Paxton sneak back to the booth leaving Audrey and me dancing. I felt someone touch my shoulder and when I turned I couldn’t believe my eyes.

“Hello, Kendra.”

Audrey looked up at me and laughed, then she walked away. The beautiful man from earlier now stood in front of me once again, and for some reason, I couldn’t say anything. I just looked at his muscular figure and smooth skin. His shirt was open just enough to see one of the tattoos on his chest and his long black hair was down and glistening in the lights. “Are you ok?” He said to me and I snapped myself out of it.

“Yes, sorry. I just can’t believe you are here. Wait, are you stalking me or something?” I giggled a little as I said the last part which made him laugh too.

“No, I swear. I actually work for the ski rescue here at the resort. I came with my coworkers and friends for a night out, but I have to say seeing you again just made my night even better.” I smiled at him, while I thought to myself how cheesy that just was. Then again it was kind of cute too.

“Well, then I am glad I made your night. Want to dance?” I asked him. His eyes looked at me with hunger as he nodded his head.

I don’t know what came over me, but I just let myself go as I danced with Matto. His hands went to my hips as I moved closer to him and swayed my body against his. Our bodies seemed to flow together perfectly. I started to dance more seductively. Pressing my body closer to him, I could feel every muscle on his body tense as I leaned my head back into his chest and swayed my hips. Something was drawing me to him, even with everyone around us I felt like we were the only two there. I felt him take a deep breath from behind me then he turned me to face him and his eyes were dark, almost black. “Kendra, I have to go. I’m sorry.” Then he ran off leaving me wondering what the hell just happened. I walked back over to the booth and Audrey eyed me.

“So where did tall, dark and handsome go?” I shrugged my shoulders.

“I don’t know. We were dancing and then he just ran off.” I sat back down between Paxton and Audrey and she just smiled at me.

“Oh well, his loss. Come on I ordered you another drink.” I smiled at her and took the drink. She’s right it’s his loss.

Matto’s POV

I walked quickly out of the club and into the cold air. Damn, that was close I said to myself. I usually have very good control over the wolf in me, but something about this woman made me lose all control. Luckily I know how I feel right before I shift and I was able to leave. “Matto, What the hell bro?” Koda’s voice came from behind me and I could hear the snow crunch beneath his feet. I turned to him.

“Sorry I just needed some air. You go back in and enjoy the rest of the night I’m going to head home.” He shrugged his shoulders at me.

“Whatever man, but something is bugging you and we don’t keep secrets. Just remember that.” I nodded at him and then he turned and headed back inside. I suddenly had the urge to run for a while, but not as a human. I walked into the woods closest to me making sure no one was around and shifted into my wolf form. I took off at full speed through the forest.

The snow crunched under my paws and the wind blew through my grey fur. This was truly the only time I could think when something was bothering me. This girl had me so messed up and I didn’t even know anything about her. The rational side of me was saying to stay away from her, but the animal in me was begging me to go to her. I kept running as fast as I could maybe if I put some distance between us I could calm my animal instincts. I came to an open meadow close to the edge of the woods by the cabin. I slowed my pace and started to walk slowly through the meadow. I came to a small river that ran alongside the meadow so I bent down to drink some water. It tasted good and refreshing. Once I had quenched my thirst I sat by the water and looked up at the sky. My mind went to her again. She was so intriguing to me and for some reason, I just couldn’t stop thinking about her.

I sat there for what seemed like hours wondering if I should go to her. I knew that I had to have looked like a complete jerk when I left so suddenly, but I had to. I couldn’t risk losing control in such a public place. I had no idea what had come over me. I was mesmerized by the way she moved and the way she rubbed her body against mine. Then she moved closer and laid her head back against my chest. Her hair brushed just under my nose allowing me to really take in her scent. She smelled of jasmine and sweet vanilla with a hint of coconut. Then another scent caught my attention. I couldn’t figure out what it was, but it was driving me crazy. I wanted her, but something wanted me to shift and claim her in my wolf form. I could feel the urge getting stronger the more she swayed her hips and I knew I had to leave.

I had heard stories before from men in the tribe about finding your mate. They use to say, that the only way to make a woman your mate for life was to claim her in your wolf form. The stories also said that your true mate would also be a wolf, but Kendra wasn’t a wolf. Was she? I usually could smell the presence of another wolf and I knew that there weren’t many of us left. Could that be the scent that was driving me crazy? There was one way that I wouldn’t be able to sense her if she was a wolf. If she had never shifted, then she was not truly a wolf yet so I wouldn’t be able to sense her. My father had told me that when you find your true mate that you just know. Could this be what was happening? I shook the thought from my head, there was no way that she was a wolf. Still, something was still drawing me to her and the feeling seemed so strong. Get it together Matto, I said to myself.

I started to slowly trot back through the forest. It was peaceful and serene out here alone. I kept up my slow pace, and before I realized it I was standing in the tree line behind the cabins of the resort. I looked out and saw a light on in one of the cabins. I stepped out of the trees and could see her standing on the balcony looking out at the trees. I was sure she couldn’t see me, but she was staring in my direction as if she could. The eyesight of a wolf is very keen, so even from fifty feet away and in the dark, I could make out every move she made. A gust of wind came from the south blowing my direction and filling my nostrils with her scent again. I watched her pull a blanket up around her shoulders and she shivered. I stood there watching her, longing for her, but kept to the shadows of the trees. I watched as she finally turned and went back inside turning the light off. I finally decided to go home, but as I turned to walk away the wind blew again. This time it came from the east and a new scent filled my nose. The scent was unfamiliar and it made the fur stand up on my back. It was the scent of another wolf, but this wolf was no friend or a natural wolf. I inched my way towards the scent and when I found the source a low growl came from within me. The wolf was a black male, and he was also watching Kendra.
