Chapter 22

A nervous chill crept over Emory as she made her way down the stairs. It wound down into darkness, the only light coming from the torch she picked up at the top of the stairs.

When she opened the wooden door at the bottom, she was greeted by a maze of tunnels. The wall sconces flickered, casting eerie shadows on the walls and she could hear the sound of water dripping somewhere in the distance.

Holding the torch out in front of her to see through the darkness, she wrinkled her nose against the damp air. Her torch cast a weak light on the cobweb-covered stone walls as she looked around.

Emory?

Rodyn’s voice popped into her head again. She didn’t know which way to go and was starting to dread what she might find. Taking a deep breath, she closed her eyes and picked a random tunnel. She walked straight ahead until she turned a corner and saw a door at the end of the hallway. It was slightly ajar with faint sounds coming from inside.
