She was lounging on the couch watching a TV show, and when she heard me, she stood up, dropped her tablet on the floor, and walked over to me and asked, "Did you see him? Did you guys talk? What did you talk about?"

I looked up at him, wanting to curse, but held my tongue and lowered my head to touch the book on my desk, "None of your business."

It was just a casual question, and I expected her answer to be a thousand times inappropriate, but to my surprise, it was something else.

I pause.

One day, much later, by chance, I ran into Alex on the street and went home to tell Shelby about it.
