  That night, Joy insisted on sleeping beside me. It was a strange, old house, and she had never been to a place like this before. To my surprise, Marcus refused.

He reasoned with her, \"You’re a big girl now, and when I was your age, I had been sleeping alone for a long time!”

Joy threw a tantrum. \"I don\'t want to be your daughter, Marcus Mo. I hate you! You return my mother to me!\"

Marcus picked her up, screaming and kicking, and carried her to a room near the hall.

As I followed behind them, I noticed that Joy had fallen silent.
