Chapter Forty

Samara froze, her heart sinking as she heard Colonel Frederick's voice. She turned slowly to see him standing in the doorway, his expression unreadable.

"Frederick, I..." Samara began, her voice trembling with guilt and fear.

But Frederick held up a hand, silencing her. His gaze shifted from Samara to Debrah, his eyes narrowing with suspicion. "What is she talking about? Cheating on me with Damien?"

Debrah glanced at Samara, her expression apologetic. "I'm sorry, Frederick. I didn't mean to..."

But Frederick cut her off, his voice cold and controlled. "I asked Samara."

Samara swallowed hard, feeling a knot form in her throat. "Frederick, I... I didn't mean for you to find out like this."
