I Feel Like I'm Drowning

Logan woke up with a start, the jarring screech of the alarm cutting into him like a meat-saw slicing through bone. His eyes fluttered open groggily, staring at the dull ceiling above him as cognizance slowly found him.

Fuck. Another day. Another day has dawned. Without her.

He showered quickly, got out and as he wiped the steam from the mirror, he took his reflection in with a pathetic blend of disappointment and acceptance. His eyes were hollow and drawn, vague blue-black rings forming semi-circles beneath them.

“Maaateee.” He whispered, as he leaned both hands on the sink, trying to say the word the way Aimee used to say it to him. “Maateee.” He knew it was pathetic. But fuck, there was a big hole in his chest that refused to fill up. He shook his head and a sigh rose to his lips.

You have got to pull yourself together. Fucking hell he had to. He couldn’t afford to lose his shit like he had that day. No, he had to be strong.
