Derrick POV.

My heart raced as I stood startled, staring at the woman I had thought was my mate.

Confusion clouded my mind and that of my wolf, my instincts conflicting with the reality that was unfolding in front of me.

"Sophia!" I yelled. "What are you doing?". I thought my utterance of her name would bring her back to her senses but it didn't.

She froze for some seconds and then turned back to wait for the security men.

The air crackled with tension, and I struggled to comprehend what was happening.

"Ethan, stay close," I whispered to the boy. The gravity of the situation was sinking in.

We were in an unfamiliar zone, we needed to be together.

Sophia, who had always seemed warm and inviting, was now cold and calculating.
