Prologue: A Beta's Heart
THREE YEARS AGO.
Paul - 18 years old
Alba - 19 years oldPAUL.
I was fucking hungry. I almost forgot I hadn’t eaten the whole day if my stomach didn’t growl and catch my attention.
A day was not enough for all the things I needed to do.
Three days ago, my pack, the Blue Meadows Pack was attacked by rogues who were aiming to take over the pack so they could get their hands on the mining quarry that was situated in the middle of our territory.
We were able to stop them. We won, but we lost too many.
Including our pack Alpha, Alpha Gustav, and his Beta. His Gamma is currently in the hospital fighting for his life.
And, with all of the highest-ranking wolves gone, I was thrown into the post, along with the young Alpha Caspian and Carlos, out of necessity.

So I guess this is it. Game on. I stepped out of Riley’s car, ready to spring into action when my body went rigid when his scent hit me. My mate's scent. It was stronger than the first time I smelt him. He smelled of cedarwood and mint.
