Chapter 20 No Medicine

Chris drove Jean back to Oakside Villa. Jean was silent the entire drive and refused to utter a single word.

He thought she would do anything to pry him for some news about Lilian. However, she appeared as though she didn't care. She never asked him about it.

When they arrived, Jean had barely even sat on the couch when a maid came over. The maid was holding a bowl of broth and other supplements.

"Madam, Mr. Larson said you need to recuperate these few days. So, please finish this bowl of broth while it's hot," she said.

Jean's expression changed the moment she saw the layer of oil floating on the surface of the broth. Once again, she felt nauseous. Her brow knitted together, and her hands tightened into fists.

"Take it away," she said, her voice low. Right then, she bent over and dry-heaved.

Seeing this, the servant paled and asked, "Madam, are you okay? I'll call for the family doctor to check up on you."

She picked up the phone and started to make the call. However, Jean grabbed her hand and shook her head. "No need. I'm just a bit worn out lately."

Albert heard the commotion and came to the lobby. He heard their conversation and hurriedly walked over to them. "Madam, are you sick?" he asked, sounding concerned. "It's been a while since your last health check. Should I arrange one for you?"

Jean raised her head to look at him. She had a stern expression on her face. "That's not necessary. I've been going to the hospital a lot these days. Aren't you aware of this?"

Albert was speechless now. Jean cast him a look and said softly, "Prepare some nourishing food. Make them bland. I've lost so much blood that I get nauseous every time I see oily food."

He nodded and replied, "I'll ask the cook to prepare it right away."

Jean turned her gaze away from him and looked at the broth the servant brought her. She suppressed the nausea she felt and went upstairs.

Only then did she feel less inclined to puke. Taking a deep breath, she took out her phone and dialed an unknown number.

It was not long before someone answered the call. A gentle voice sounded from the other end of the line. "Ms. Michaels."

Jean pursed her lips. She shut the door to the balcony and walked into the bathroom. She lowered her voice and said, "I'm heading over as soon as possible for an abortion. Please arrange a reliable doctor for me."

Liam White was stunned. He hesitated for a moment before saying, "Simone's returned from abroad. You two have been best friends for years. Why don't you go to the Walkers' hospital for the abortion?"

Jean's hand that held her phone trembled slightly. "Okay." She agreed, yet ignored whatever he said after that.

Her mind was empty. Simone was back. In that case, "that person" would return soon too.

Jean took a deep breath again to calm down. Then, she walked out of the bathroom. With difficulty, she walked to the side of her bed and sat down.

All of a sudden, she found that her eyes started to prickle. Lying down on the bed, she tried to bear the pain. She felt terribly unwell after losing so much blood.

"Madam."

"Madam …"

Someone was calling for her.

Jean opened her eyes to see Layla, the maid, standing beside her. She looked at her with concern.

"You're sweating a lot. Are you sick?"

Jean placed a hand over her forehead. It seemed like she was having a slight fever. Jean frowned and tried pushing herself up from the bed. But, she felt that both her arms were weak.

Layla took notice and immediately went to help Jean. "Madam, let me call the family doctor for you."

Jean shook her head. If the family doctor came, everyone would find out that she was pregnant. "No need. Maybe it's just that I'm getting my period soon."

Layla looked at Jean's pale face. She knew how tired Jean always was when she had her period. So, she didn't think too much about it and said, "I'll get you something that can relieve period cramps then."

She was about to leave the room when they heard Tyler's voice from the door. "She can't have medicine for now. She'll have to bear it even if it hurts."
