I had just remembered the message he sent me, anyway, so I thought for a moment and said, “I didn't come to Washington because I didn't trust your ability to solve this problem. Those things though I happened to come across some clues, so I followed them.”

He turned around and asked, “Then why did you lie?”

“Why did I lie?”

I had lied to him about coming for a business trip that came up.

I had never been good at explaining, so I sighed and told the truth. “The clue I found. It is related to the Lima family. My assistant advised me to tell him, but then he also said that Mrs. Lima is his aunt. That’s why I lied to him, because I didn’t want to make things difficult for him, but I didn’t expect him to find out.”
