Chapter 19

Inside the car, I was so nervous. I couldn’t ignore the knot tightening in my stomach. My hands fidgeted in my lap as I secretly stole glances at Jake, who seemed focused on the road. He was so handsome tonight. More handsome in his black, expensive suit. His hair was not neatly combed like how he liked it, a bit messy and ruggedly attractive. He had run his fingers through them many times, I supposed. He smelt so good also. I could smell him all day and I wouldn’t get tired of it.

“Everything okay?” Jake’s deep voice pulled me out of my thoughts.

I forced a small smile, attempting to mask my nerves and dreamy thoughts of him. “Yeah, just a bit jittery, I guess.”

His hand found mine, making me feel comforted. “You’ll be fine.”

I nodded, looking out of the window. “Will Conrad be there tonight?”

I felt him squeeze my hands before placing his hand back on the steering wheel, a light smile on his lips. “He’ll be there, but you don’t have to meet him tonight. How do you feel about it? Abo
