47 — The Beginning of the End

I don’t remember how or when I got to the hospital room. At some point, I blacked out, either from physical pain, mental anguish, or sheer exhaustion that spread through every part of my body.

The fact was, I was there and aware.

When I opened my eyes, the light was the first thing to bother me. I groaned, shifting and feeling the pain spread again, like I had just been hit by a speeding truck.

I was seriously beat up.

“Don’t move too much, baby,” she whispered.

“God, this hurts,” I grimaced.

I couldn’t recall ever feeling pain like this in any other battle. Only now. I frowned and looked at Malia. “What happened?”

“Mark is still asleep,” she sighed. “We hope he wakes up soon, but it seems they gave you a very large dose of Wolfbane. It’s going to take you a while to recover.”

“So this is how you felt without Fawn?” I groaned.

“Yes,” she laughed, squeezing my hand a bit. “I was so scared of losing you.”

“I said you wouldn’t lose me,” I sighed. “Why can’t I be happy about this?”
