Chapter 8

IANNA’S POV

“It’s time to go now, my friend.” Christina said looking breath taking in her nude dress. It sat perfectly on her curves and blended perfectly with her skin tone. “You look beautiful Christina.” She smiled at me.

We walked out of my room and down the stairs. My mother was the first person to see us coming from the front door. Maybe she just sent Lissa off. “Well, I hope you know what you are doing borrowing this girl your clothes.” She looks me up and down.

“Dressing up a pig will not stop it from being a pig. Remember when you lay with dogs you get up with fleas.” What she meant was that I was like a flea who transmits disease through my bite including plague.

In plain English my mother was calling me a plague that was going to infect my friend if she was not careful. “Sometimes pigs and dogs are useful.” Christina said then pulled me by my arm out of the house.

She then turned to me. “Please tell me that is not your mother.” I sighed. “She is my mother, but don’t blame her for treating me that way, she has her reasons.” Christina gave me a sad look.

“It doesn’t matter what her reasons are, no mother should ever treat her daughter like that.” she sighed. “Let’s go have fun and forget all about this for the evening.” I nodded, forgetting would be nice.

We got into the car and her driver drove us to the venue. I was nervous, I have never attended events like this. “Would you stop pulling on your fingers? Everything is going to be alright; don’t you worry, I am here with you.” Christina assures me.

I offered her a smile with my heart settling. “Thank you for all this Christina. For the first time in my existence, I am going to a party wearing new clothes. Right now, I feel like Cinderella, and you are my fairy god mother.” Christina took my hands in hers.

“I am no fairy god mother; you are my friend and friends do things like these for one another.” Well, I wouldn’t know, I never had a friend.

When we got to the venue, we got out of the car, and everyone looked exquisite in their evening gowns. My nerves started but Christina took my hand, and we walked forward. People kept looking at us.

Am sure they were shocked to see me there and looking this beautiful. For the first time in my life attention was not on me for the wrong reasons. And for the first time, I held my head high as I walked among them.

“Wow, look at you Ianna. You almost look like a normal person and if I didn’t know better, I would have been fooled into thinking you are a good girl but I know better.” Pamela said and her friends laughed.

“Jealousy is not a good look on your Pamela, you invited me here and I don’t like how you insult my plus one. It’s not classy for a host.” Christina said and pulled me away from Pamela and her friends.

“Thanks Christina, but you don’t have to stand up for me. Just ignore them.” She sighed. “I just can’t stand people like her and your sister. They are so narrow minded it makes me sick!” I never knew better so, I wouldn’t know.

People have always treated me badly, my mother included, so to me this was normal. “You said we forget tonight, and we are having fun.” I reminded her.

“You are right, today we are having fun.” We walked forward, the looks did not stop. “Hey Christina, can I have a word with you?” Luka asked after scanning both Christina and I. “I have nothing to say to you Luka, but am sure Pamela is looking for you, wherever she is.” Christina said then we walked away.

I liked how bold she was. As we walked around with drinks in our hands my wolf Sandra became restless. ‘What is going on?’ I asked her but she said nothing. As we walked further with Christina talking while I was distracted.

I smelled the sweetest scent, it was like nothing I have ever smelled before, it called to me, drew me towards it. I turned and followed the scent. “Ianna where are you going?” asked Christina following behind. “I don’t know, can you smell that?” she sniffed the air. “Nothing, what does it small like?” I could not describe it. “I don’t know but I want to find it, I feel drawn to it.” She looked at me weirdly, well, that’s what she gets for being friends with the cursed girl.

I followed the scent through the woods with Christina following behind in silence. The closer I got the stronger the scent was, and I hurried my steps. When I appeared, a rumble escaped my lips.

I quickly covered my mouth with my hands, but it was too late, the culprit already heard me and turned. It was Jeyden with my sister. He looked at me then frowned.

I on the other hand kept looking at his hand that was intertwined with my sister’s. “Mate!” I said and Jeyden, who had taken a step towards me, stopped in his tracks.

He had a deep frown on his face like he could not believe we could be mates. But there was no one who was more shocked than my sister. She was seething with rage where she stood.

“No! you are not his mate, Jeyden is mine. You go away from here you evil child!” I ignored my sister and kept my eyes on Jeyden who was still looking at me. I wanted to hear what he had to say.

But he said nothing, all he did was to turn and walk away. Lissa glared at me before running after him. “Oh Ianna, I am so sorry.” Christina said. “Am fine Christina, he didn’t reject me, so maybe he just needs time to process this.” But my heart told me that he was going to reject me.

He was the alpha’s son and I the pack’s plague and curse.
