Chapter 4: Asher's Sudden Appearance

Asher heard the butler speak with an impatient expression. Not waiting for the butler to finish speaking, Asher hurriedly walked up to the second floor.

“Selena, is that you?”

“Holy shit!” Calantha thought.

The wedding dress was too bulky. Calantha couldn’t run fast, Asher was behind her, as long as he ran, he could catch up with her.

But no...

Asher followed her and maintained a certain distance.

“Selena, you’re trying on the wedding dress.”

“I thought I was the only one who was excited to look forward to the wedding. You’re making me happy, Selena.”

“Damn, damn... I need to find a room to hide in.” Calantha thought. “Damn, every room is locked. The training room is too far away.”

Calantha didn’t dare turn around to check the distance between her and Asher, as she was worried that Asher would find out something out of the ordinary.

If Asher found out about Selena’s escape plans, everything would get worse.

Calantha recalled the afternoon two days before when she and Selena discussed the plan.

“Calantha, you have to be really careful. Asher is a madman and ruthless. If he finds out about my escape plans, neither you nor I will be safe.” Selena reminded.

And now?

Asher would discover this secret if he wanted to. He just ran and would catch up with Calantha.

Calantha did not give up, she persisted in running to the practice room, which was the closest room to her, and her phone was there. She would call Layla.

It pleased Asher to know Selena tried her wedding dress, which proved she was looking forward to the wedding too, right?

Selena loved him, right?

But Asher didn’t catch up with Calantha, because he wanted to see Selena in his wedding dress for the first time as he stood in the aisle.

Asher also found that Selena (Calantha) was like Cinderella when the midnight alarm rang. She hurriedly ran away so the prince wouldn’t find out.

Calantha finally walked into the training room, locked the door, and called Layla.

Asher stood in front of the door, which was locked by Calantha. He said:

“Selena, I want to talk to you. I just finished my trip to Los Angeles and I miss you.”

Calantha panicked. She wanted to answer, to reassure Asher, but she didn’t dare. Calantha’s voice differed from Selena’s.

15 minutes later.

Asher seemed impatient, he urged.

“Selena, I want to see you.”

Nobody answered.

Asher pondered why Selena wouldn’t answer him.

“Are you in trouble with your wedding dress? Open the door, I’ll help you.”

Calantha was scared. She still couldn’t reach Layla. The only thing she could do was pray.

Suddenly Asher stopped speaking.

“Why doesn’t he ask anymore? Did he give up?” Calantha panicked and relentlessly wondered what Asher would do next.

Calantha heard the click and saw the door handle spinning.

Asher unlocked. So he’s got a key?

An alarm sounded in Calantha’s mind. She understood that if Asher opened this door, Gael would lose his chance to be cured.

“Asher…” a feminine voice rang out.

Calantha knew who owned this voice. That was Lady Selena. She came back.

Selena’s arrival in the hallway surprised Asher.

“Selena, you just got out?” Asher asked.

“Yes, what are you doing?” Selena asked.

“Unlock the door. Someone is wearing your wedding dress. Is that your servant?”

“No, she’s a model. She didn’t wear my wedding dress. It was a copy of the wedding dress. I wanted to edit some details on the dress so I hired her to wear it.” Selena explained.

“Oh...” Asher let go of the door handle.

“Let’s go to the reading room. Just you and me.” Selena suggested.

Asher agreed.

In the practice room, Calantha could hear the conversation between Asher and Selena. She felt lucky Selena was back in time.

“Knock, knock.”

“Miss Ellis, can I come in?” Layla asked.

“All right.” Calantha opened the door for Layla to enter the room.

“Did they leave?” Calantha asked.

“They went to the reading room. Changed the wedding dress. Damn it, how that guy come so surprisedly.” Layla lamented, “Sit down in the armchair. I’ll put your makeup on so you would look different from Lady Selena. God, we need to redesign the wedding dresses, too.”

Calantha felt she could understand why Selena didn’t like Asher. He always did what he wants, liked to possess. It was hard to live with a man like Asher Pittman without feeling stuffy.

After 30 minutes, Layla finished makeup for Calantha. Calantha was curious about the change in her face, so she looked in the mirror.

And right away, she wished she hadn’t.

Layla’s makeup made her look bad. Small eyes, enormous nose, swollen lips. What a terrible combination that could not be more.

Calantha looked at Layla with sad eyes. Layla felt Calantha was questioning her.

“What, are you unhappy?” Layla was furious.

“It’s okay. At least Asher won’t question me,” Calantha comforted herself.

“Nothing,” Calantha replied.

“All right, you go back to your room, lock the door and don’t go out. Maybe Asher will have dinner with Lady Selena here.” Layla reminded her.

“Layla, the phone number you gave me…” Calantha said. She wanted to know why she couldn’t reach Layla.

“That’s my phone number. I didn’t answer your call because the butler called me earlier and informed me of Asher’s presence. I was in a hurry to drive back to the mansion, you know.” Layla explained.

“I see.” Calantha replied, then she went to her room.

The things that had just happened freaked her out. So far, Calantha had felt her heart beating quick. Calantha stroked her chest to calm herself down.

“There’s nothing more frightening than today.” Calantha thought.

Calantha read books to kill time, then she felt asleep.

“Knock, knock.”

The knocking woke Calantha.

It was already dark. Calantha didn’t turn on the power in the room, she could only observe everything based on the faint light from the moon.

“Miss Ellis, open my door.” Layla urged.

Calantha hurriedly opened the door.

“Is something wrong, Layla.” Calantha asked in a sleepy voice.

“Asher leaved, let’s go down to the kitchen for dinner, then to the living room to see Lady Selena. She wants to tell you something.” Layla announced. “And remember to fix your hair.”

Calantha unconsciously touched her hair to check it and realized her hair was tangled.

“So I have been communicating with other people with my frizzy hair?” Calantha was shy.

Calantha fixed her hair and went down to the kitchen for dinner. But the food is no longer as delicious as it used to be. The problem was not on the cooker. A short sleep upsets Calantha’s biological timetable, and she’s tired.

After dinner, at Layla’s request, she went to the living room, Lady Selena waiting for her.

“Layla said she had something to tell me.” Calantha said.

“That’s right, you have a mission next week, Calantha. You’re going to have to attend the dance party with Asher.”
