Jaxon’s POV

Melanie slept through dinner, so I put a plate in the microwave for her to eat later. We were supposed to go back to the pack house, but since she's still asleep, we'll just leave in the morning.

I bring Mom a cup of tea and sit across from her on the couch. She's eyeing me, like she's contemplating asking me something. "What is it, Mom?" I ask quietly.

She purses her lips, averting her gaze to the window. "Did she sleep with you to get that rank?"
