Chapter 40

THEY TOOK the stairs to get back to the road without a word coming out of their mouths. Xurden walked in front while his two followers followed him. Behind them was Yric who was getting cold because of his wet body. Even though he hugged himself, he was still shaking. Xurden only noticed his condition when they reached the road.

“Looks like I’m going to get sick,” Yric informed them. Even as he spoke, his mouth trembled.

They stopped walking, and Xurden turned to the younger boy. He thought it was because Yric absorbed the poison from his body the previous night. That’s why Yric felt different at that moment. Yric’s skin became even paler.

“Let me see,” Sebastian said as he approached Yric. He put his hand on the boy’s forehead and immediately removed it. “You are really sick. You have a fever.”

“Do you want us to take you to the hospital?” Marco asked.

“Don’t. I just need some rest,” Yric said, rejecting Marco’s suggestion.
