Chapter 29

LEXI.

A lot of things happened in the course of two months.

Austin left, and I felt empty. I waited for him to invite us to the territory, but the invite never came. To say I was disappointed was an understatement. I was heartbroken.

I badly wanted to ask him if we could stay with him for a while, but I didn’t have the courage either. I had always been a confident female, but Austin and the possibility of rejection still lingered in my head.

He did visit us, but it wasn’t as often as he promised, and at times, he would just spend an hour or two. I shouldn’t be complaining because whatever he lacked in presence, he would make up for the financial support.

Alpha Jace gave him three months’ advance salary, and he dumped the two months in my bank account. He then told me I was already hired as his new assistant, and my job was to keep David company and make myself happy. I didn’t say more, but I didn’t take the job I said I would take.
